Mr. Ummer Sahib, Director of Informap, is a Technology Specialist with over 35 years of expertise in the Geospatial industry. Holding a Masters in City Planning from CEPT University, Ahmedabad India, Mr. Sahib has been instrumental in pioneering GIS and mapping solutions across multiple regions, including the UAE, India, Asia, Middle East and Europe.
Mr. Sahib played a key role in developing India’s first GIS software and has led major GIS, GPS, and fleet management projects. Under his leadership, Informap has developed innovative GPS tracking platforms and solutions for diverse industries. His problem-solving skills and passion for innovation have driven Informap’s growth, resulting in the rollout of cutting-edge technologies and services over the past 25 years.
An author and speaker on Smart Cities, GPS Telematics, and GIS technologies, Mr. Sahib has co-authored multiple books, published by Springer on Smart Cities.
In 2019, Springer published Mr. Sahib’s third co-authored book on “ Smart Environment for Smart Cities”.

Informap was established in the UAE in 2002 by acquiring Spatial Data Integrators (SDI) company from MAPS geosystems, Sharjah.
Realizing the importance of detailed building level maps for accurate door delivery and emergency response, the founders realized the need for establishing a Virtual Addressing System for the UAE. Thus in 2005, Informap released a 6-digit based UAE Locator Addressing System called Geo-Reference Locator (GRL). Today, it has been upgraded to a 7-digit system called Geo-Reference Code (GRC) to locate every single building in the UAE.
2002
Informap Was established in the UAE on Feburary 2002 by acquiring Spatial Data Integrators (SDI) from MAPS geosystems, Sharjah.
2003
Released Desktop & PDA Responsive Versions of GRL Addressing Systems.
2005
Released Web & Business Edition – UAE Locator. Won the Gold Award from Salon International Des Inventions for our innovation in GRL Addressing Services.
2006
Released SMS Version Of Fleet Tracking and Management Solution.
2007
Launched Informap’s first tracking solution www.whereareyou.ae.
2008
Partnered with South Korean Company and Launched its Own Customized Tracking Device. Etisalat choses Informap as the content provider for Etisalat Mobile mapping services.
2009
Released Webversion of uaelocator for delivery companies.
2010
Developed an Advanced Tracking Solution with Bespoke systems for Oil Sectors.
2011
Provides Business Location Mapping service for www.localsearch.ae. Launched GRL (Geo Reference Locator) 6-digit based Addressing solution for the UAE.
2012
Released the Mobile Version of GRL Addressing system. Released the Mobile Version of Where are you Tracking Solution.
2013
Emirates Fast Food company choose Informap’s GRL based Addressing system for Home delivery.
2014
Address Doctor choses Informap as the UAE Address Data Provider. Released business version of GRL addressing systems on Tablets.
2015
Successfully Integrated Makani Addressing system into Informap’s Home Delivery Mapping Solution. Aster DM Healthcare chooses Informap as their Fleet Management Solution Provider. Launched infofleet.com , the advanced and fully equipped version of Tracking solutions. Dubai Police (DP) Awards Informap as Secure Path Service Provider for Car Rental Companies.
2016
A Prestigious Dubai Hotel Chain successfully Implemented Informap ‘s INDOOR MAPPING. Dubai Municipality (DM) Approves Informap as the Authorised Makani Enabler. Launched version of Android Based Field Staff Tracking to track field staff. Released Mobile APPs for Whereareyou.ae & Infofleet Tracking Solution – iOS & Android OS. Released Web Version of ROMA (Riders Order Monitoring Application) to track Bike and rider for Home Delivery Companies. Became Authorised Distributor of AMBICAM Cloud Cameras in the UAE. Became Authorised Distributor of AIRMENTOR AirQuality Monitoring Solutions in the UAE. Informap Group operates under Informap worldwide BVI. The corporate affairs are looked after by the corporate Head Quarters in Geneva. Informap has its regional head quarters in Moscow, Dubai, Singapore and New York and country operation offices in several countries.

1. How does a GPS tracking system works?
GPS (Global Positioning System) tracking system consists of a hardware device with a GPS chip, antenna, peripheral accessories, and a GSM sim card. The Device receives location (latitude and longitude) from the GPS satellite network. The location coordinates together with other data such as vehicle ignition status, speed, and other accessory data such RFID card and Temperature sensor are transmitted to the COM server through the GSM data SIM card. The web application uses this data to show the vehicle location on the map and to generate reports.
